Philippine National Police cancelled the mission of the controversial cop Police Chief Inspector Jovie Espenido in Iloilo City to resolve the illegal drug problem in the said place, according to PRO-6 Director Police C/Supt. Cesar Binag.
The announcement happened one day after the top 1 drug lord of Western Visayas or Region 6 Richard “Buang” Prevendido was killed in an anti-drug operation conducted by Iloilo PNP.
It means that he’s going to stay in Ozamiz City like what he wanted to do.
According to Espenido, he would rather stay in Ozamiz to finish his business against illegal drugs.
PNP Director General chief Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa also wanted Espenido to remain in Ozamiz.
“If I will have my way, I prefer him to stay in Ozamiz para matapos ‘yung problema doon kung mamarapatin. Mas maganda nga doon muna siya. Anyway ‘yung sa sitwasyon sa Iloilo e nakikita ko na inaamin naman ni Mayor Jed Mabilog na napabayaan niya yung problema sa drugs noon, hindi niya na-address but right now, in fairness to the good mayor, nakikita ko rin naman na nagsususmikap siya sa anti-drug campaign sa Iloilo City,” Bato said.
Jovie Espenido became controversial after his team nabbed the former Albuera Leyte Mayor Rolando Espinosa who got killed inside his cell last year.
Espenido also led the team who raided the house of former Ozamiz Mayor Aldong Parojinog who also got killed during the operation.
Last week, President Rodrigo Duterte said that he’s going to assign Espenido to Iloilo City to clear the illegal drug problem in the city.
Duterte tagged Iloilo City Mayor Jed Mabilog as a drug protector. He also ordered the NBI to do a lifestyle check to the city mayor which Mabilog welcomed.
Mabilog even opened his house which Duterte described as like a ‘castle’ to the media to prove that his house is not like what the President said.
